PRECISION CHROME FINISH

Surface Preparation

Ensure the surface is completely smooth, clean, and free of dust or oils. A flawless base is critical for the self-organization technology to create a mirror finish.

• Apply over a fully cured primer/sealer, base coat or clear coat then sand with #600–#1000 grit. *A Gloss Black is NOT Required!
• DO NOT apply over absorbent substrates or insufficiently cured coats. This WILL cause shrinkage.
• Degrease using silicone remover or isopropyl alcohol only. Use low-lint, low-oil wipes.
• Always strain paint using an ultra-fine ~5 μm strainer or Yoshino paper.

Mixing

Strictly follow the exact mixing order: First combine the Binder and Reducer (Thinner). Then add the Hardener to this mixture. Finally, shake the Mirror Seed well and add it last. Mix thoroughly but gently.

• Ratio by Parts: Binder (5) : Reducer (5) : Hardener (2) : Mirror Seeds (2).
• MIX TIP: Mix Binder and Reducer 1:1. Then Mix reduced Binder at 5:1:1 with Hardener & Mirror Seeds.

Application

Because Kroma Edge is self-organizing, the metal particles will rise to the surface while the resin settles. Apply even coats.

• MUST: Apply one continuous wet coat. The coating film MUST remain wet until spraying is completed.
• DO NOT: Apply mist coats or tack coats. Failure to apply a full wet coat WILL result in pinholes or loss of reflectivity.
• Film Thickness: 15–30 μm (0.6 - 1.2 mil). Exceeding 40 μm WILL cause cracking or sagging.
• Environmental: Minimum application temperature is 68°F.
• Number of Coats: Standard method is ONE COAT ONLY. Maximum coats: 3.

Curing & Topcoat

Allow the 2K system to cure fully according to the specific environmental conditions. The hardener prevents clouding and locks in the brilliant chrome luster.

• Air Cure: Minimum of 36 hours. (After 48 hours use adhesion promoter).
• Force Cure: Wait 5 minutes after mirror has formed. Force dry at 140-160°F for 1-2 hours. Then dry 24 hours at room temp.
• Topcoat Clear: Apply clear ONLY after KROMA EDGE is fully cured. Applying too early WILL soften the resin layer and cause permanent cloudiness.
• Clear Coat Mix: ONLY KROMA EDGE Dedicated Topcoat Clear is approved (Clear Base 10 : Hardener 1 : Thinner 70–100%).
